Keeping Pastures Green and Traditions Alive

This week included our last rodeo of the summer along with plenty of time spent irrigating. By the final rodeo, I knew what to expect and felt more confident and had the jobs down. It was rewarding to see another successful event come together and to watch guests experience a part of ranch life that many of them had never seen before.
The rodeo reminded me how important the agri-tourism side of the ranch is. It gives people a chance to learn about western culture and see firsthand the work that goes into ranching. Being involved in both the ranch work and the public events has given me a better appreciation for how the two support each other. This rodeo also included my friend and coworker Grace riding her first ranch bronc. She covered him and made the top 3 in the standings.
I also spent a day irrigating this week. Although it can be repetitive, I have learned that keeping water flowing correctly is essential to maintaining healthy pastures. It’s kind of a nice change of pace being in the cooling water.
This week showed me that even the routine jobs are important to the success of the ranch. Whether helping with the final rodeo or managing irrigation, every task plays a role. I continue to learn something new each week, and those experiences are making me a more capable and well-rounded rancher.
