Sheep and Wool Festival
#bfrdpwy #aginternship #RightRisk

This week mostly consisted of getting ready for the Sheep and Wool Festival in Buffalo, WY. Most of the week is spent painting sheep and a sheep wagon to be used for signs for the festival and the rest was spent bunching hay bales to be moved and gathering everything that needed to go to the festival with us. There was a lot that went into the Sheep and Wool Festival and what I helped with was just a small part.
We went up to Buffalo on Friday and set up before the festival started. That afternoon there were a few things going on with the festival but not a lot. Most of the events took place on Saturday; where we started out the morning with stock dog trials and ended the day watching Tris Murdock perform.

There isn’t really a concept from this week that I would challenge. This week was more about getting ready for the Sheep and Wool Festival. Other than bunching bales, I didn’t do much besides make sure that we were ready to head to Buffalo once my host got back from her conference in San Diego. I did get to do a tour of the wool mill while at the festival which was very interesting to see how wool is processed and how much work goes into making it a useable product after it is harvested from the animal.
At this point I don’t have many questions other than how to get more involved in organizations like the Wyoming Wool Growers. I would like to get more involved in groups like this to help plan events like the Sheep and Wool Festival but also to help advocate for industries like the wool or cattle industry.

I plan to use what I’ve learned this week to help me become more involved in committees like Wool Growers and Cattle Women’s associations. I think that getting more involved in associations like this can help me not only learn more but also make better connections with the industry that I might possibly be involved in one day.
