A Week of Haying
#bfrdpwy #aginternship #RightRisk

This past week we did a lot of haying. I learned about running tractors, how to rake hay, as well as how to cut hay. I also learned a little bit about book keeping but I would like to learn more. This week I mostly raked hay, but I did get to do a little bit of cutting hay. I think that these are very interesting things and though driving a tractor can get kind of boring, it is something that has to be done.
I don’t think that there is a concept from this week that I would challenge. Most of haying is straight forward and makes a lot of sense to me. If I had to challenge something I would challenge bailing hay at night. I understand why it is done this way but I would rather not bale hay in the evenings when it is just getting dark. Part of this is because I don’t really enjoy driving in the dark and the other part is that I feel like I can do better when I can see everything in front of me and not just where the lights are pointing.

Some questions I still have are about the book keeping of the business. I would like to learn things like how to do the books. I think that this is I’m probably because it can help me manage the money in my own operation one day. It can also help me understand the money side of ranching and not just the animal and work side.
I plan to use these things in the future to benefit me by helping me make more informed decisions about how I would run an operation. These things would help me make decisions like when to stay haying, what to hay first, and when I want to bail my hay. I think that being able to manage my books well is also an important thing to know.
