Understanding The Cattle

#bfrdpwy #aginternship #RightRisk

Some major points I have learned about are cycles used in AI-ng show cattle. Last week we used seeders to stop the cattle’s cycle for a week then removed them to sync up with the other cattle ensuring that when breed all will calve at the same time. Another point that I have learned is mending fences especially border line fences are important so that cattle don’t just graze they can destroy others land with grazing. And on the ranch, they acquired collars where you can draw a boundary where cattle can’t cross, as well as keep track of who they would birth and loads of other information.

Some concepts and ideas from this week that I challenge would be my understanding of the cattle that are on this ranch and what each do to benefit this ranch. For example, there are the show heifers, and the show bull which are as intended for showing. We also have kill calves that are being feed to ensure there is meat. Finally, we have recips that are breed for calves and nursing pens for the calves that lose their mom and are given too one of two cows that nurture them.

Some questions I have at this point is at what point would this ranch end aing? this is mainly because now I Hear other workers speaking about how they will turn out the bulls to clean up so I wouldn’t imagine its not too long till it should be over. Another question I have Is what is the best feed that sustains all the cattle from the recipe cows to the show heifers and what is best for each cow? This question I’m just genuinely curios.

With what I have learned from this week, I plan to help better the ranch. With this I will try and make the ranch run as smooth as possible ensuring that all the cattle will be well fed, and the vaccines are properly given. As well with what I have learned I will continue learning to enable me to better understand of what I can do with cattle . that is what I will do with all I have learned this past week.
