Learning All About AI in Cattle
#bfrdpwy #aginternship #RightRisk

What I have learned over this past week is a lot to start off I learned about irrigation through water lines. I am used to using water from mountain run off where the water lines are the tubular structure with sprinkler heads that every 12 hours, we rotate through the fields. Second, I have learned about show cattle. Mainly I have learned breeding and the grades of embryos and the grades of them grade one is the best and following through 4 which are generalized to be defective and thrown out after grading. Finally, I learned that a grade 2 embryo is a fresh embryo has a greater conception rate compared to a frozen embryo.

What ideas from this week I would challenge is my knowledge of AI-ing cattle. From this past week I have learned a lot about how AI cattle work. At the start I had no clue how AI works to where now I understand that what flushing is, how its stored, and how to identify when a Hereford is in heat. I would like to challenge the way show animals are prepped. I started with no knowledge and as of yesterday I understand catching and halter breaking calves.

A few questions I have is, how does this operation manage the cows that are breed and aren’t outside of separate pens? Another question I have is, what the best feed for a show cow that would maintain hair and ensure the cow is at the best shape for show? These questions I have are what I hopefully learn in the up-and-coming weeks.

I plan to use what I learned this past week to help me get a leg up for next week and enable me to be more helpful sorting and aiding with the cows. As well, I will put what I have learned to grow my knowledge and force myself to embrace this new week and allow me to better understand cattle to a further extent. I will also use what I learned this past week to understand germination in the fields and what is better for feed. As well understand cover crops and the benefits what it brings and enables me to understand more for next week.
