2023 Fall Opportunity
#bfrdpwy #aginternship #RightRisk
The 2022 Census of Agriculture reports that the average age of U.S. farmers and ranchers is now 57.5 years. Maintaining food and fiber production, while sustaining open spaces and the rural communities agriculture supports requires recruiting and training a new generation of producers.
GrowinG began as a USDA grant-funded program that matches “interns” (anyone over the age of 18 who wants a career in production agriculture) with “hosts” (farms and ranches in Wyoming) for a 10-week, hands-on, educational internship experience.
Interns located on farms, cow/calf ranches and sheep operations are responsible for a variety of work tasks. Hosts report interns working with cattle, horses, dogs, farm equipment, tagging and branding livestock, fencing, and much more.
All donations made to the GrowinG Internship Program go directly towards supporting hands-on learning experiences for aspiring farmers and ranchers in Wyoming. Currently, the cost to directly support one intern for 10 weeks is $5,000, not including program overhead, or the time, housing and food generously provided by our host farms and ranches!
GrowinG is now accepting donations via its UW Foundation account. Please click the link to make your gift and support the program.
Our GrowinG interns and hosts greatly appreciate your generosity!
