Overview
The Growing Beginning Farmers and Ranchers in Wyoming project aims to provide education, mentoring, and technical assistance to equip beginning farmers and ranchers with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to make informed decisions and enhance the sustainability of their operations. The project ensures that Wyoming’s beginning producers stay well-informed about risk management alternatives, enabling them to take full advantage of existing insurance products and other risk control measures. Through training and resources, the program covers various topics, including financial management, risk management, enterprise assessment, and risk analysis.
With a multidimensional approach, the project offers training and resources under four broad objectives. It provides educational opportunities directly to beginning farmers and ranchers through regionally available on-site programs and online resources. It also delivers on-site and online educational programs to new, beginning, and limited-resource farmers and ranchers across Wyoming through FFA classrooms and other venues. Additionally, the project coordinates hands-on internships on working farms and ranches each summer in partnership with state producer organizations and educational institutions. Finally, it develops and distributes media-based education on financial management, risk management, enterprise assessment, and risk analysis through agriculture-focused newspapers and producer-organization newsletters statewide.
